We maintain that we have a responsibility to place the needs of people living with hepatitis C and those affected by hepatitis C first. Activities should be culturally and linguistically appropriate for the people served. We have a responsibility to provide accurate and unbiased information, maintain a positive attitude, focus on educational aspects, to help dispel fears, and promote better quality of life for patients affected by hepatitis C.
MOHCA is a "not for profit" organization based in Central Missouri
Our primary goal is to increase awareness about Hepatitis C and to provide support for all who may be affected by Hepatitis C.
- 72 support group meetings across Mid-Missouri, last 2 years.
- 1 professional meeting for Family Practice Physicians.
- 2 lobbying trips to Washington DC for Hep C legislation.
Instrumental in getting a Hepatitis C Bill launched in the US Senate, SB 1143. (The Congressional bill will be ready soon)
Members of the National Hepatitis C Advocacy Council and the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable.
2 Yellow Billboards (What do 112,594 Missourians have in Common?) are funded and located on I-70/Hwy 63 generating several calls a week about Hep C.
ACTIVITIES:
Develop and maintain support groups throughout Mid-Missouri.
Provide public education to increase awareness of Hepatitis C.
Health fairs and presentations to the Recovery Network, various drug and alcohol facilities.
School district presentations bringing education into the area schools.
Assist Mid Missourians with questions about Hepatitis and others needing help with their battle with Hep C are served by this small organization.
Seek patient referrals from most of the mid Missouri Gastroenterologists, Family Practice Physicians, and area Health Departments.
Columbia, MO - 2nd Monday of every month, 7pm, Room GL 11, University Hospital.
Jefferson City, MO - 3rd Sunday of every month, 4pm, 1440 Aaron Ct, Option Health Care.
Osage Beach, MO - 3rd Sunday of every month, 1pm, Conference Room D, Lake General Hospital.
Springfield, MO - Starts in October 2004
Transplant Support/Education Group - 1st Wednesday of Each Month, 2-3:30 pm, Columbia VA Hospital, Auditorium, 2nd floor.
Sedalia, MO - 2nd Thursday of every month, 7 to 9 pm, Pettis County Health Department.
